What are oilseeds? They are those plants whose seeds contain oil. At Sociedad Cooperativa Andaluza Campo de Tejada, we are fundamentally producers of sunflower and rapeseed. These are two of the main agricultural oilseed crops.

Our Cooperative produces between 8,000 and 9,000 tonnes of sunflower. Two types of oil are extracted from this crop. Firstly, there is linoleic sunflower oil and, secondly, high-oleic sunflower oil. The difference between the two lies in their acid content.

While high-oleic sunflower oil is characterised by a higher oleic acid content, linoleic oil has a lower proportion. This leads us to the conclusion that the high-oleic oil is more similar to olive oil, though it is more resistant to high temperatures.

As regards the percentages of our sunflower producers, 75% choose linoleic oil and 25% produce high-oleic. The two types of sunflower oil are normally

destined for human consumption, but a small proportion is also used for animal feed.

For its part, rapeseed also provides one of the most widely-used oils in the world, together with sunflower. It is a crop that needs moderate temperatures and does not require abundant rain to grow. It is resistant and prefers deep, clayey-loamy soil which is well aerated and drained, as with sunflower, which tends to grow well on dry, sunny ground.
Both the sunflower and rapeseed oils produced at Cooperativa Campo de Tejada are marketed mainly on the Spanish market, with the region of Andalusia being the main consumer.
